Faith in Images

God speaks to me in images.

I remember the first time this happened.
I was a new Christian,
learning who God was
and who I was in relation to Him.
I spent my days
trying to fashion a mirror of myself
so I could reflect Him.

A picture flashed through my mind,
fully formed and vivid,
of a kind, timeless face and bright smile.
I felt loved and cherished;
I was pleasing to Someone.

The image passed.
The influence remained.

This week, another image.

As I navigated the waters of circumstance,
trying to control where my little boat went,
tossed and moved, seemingly at the mercy of my emotions,
the Lord showed me a long chain,
from my little boat-
down, down, down
to a sturdy anchor:
unmoving, unchanging.
The anchor of the one who is the same
yesterday, today and forever.
An anchor whose weight and substance
nullifies my worry and fear,
an anchor of goodness and promise,
of holiness and perfection.
My boat may move,
but never far.

Keep me tethered to you, Lord,
In all of my circumstances.

God speaks to me in pictures.  How does He speak to you?
What has He spoken into your life lately?

This brought tears friend! He speaks to me in images also and with your words, I felt Him! My boat seems so rocky at times and as if soon it will be capsized yet He is here and has me anchored. Beautiful imagery!

That was truly beautiful, Christine.

God speaks to me in words. Like Ann Voskamp's? God showed me so much about myself through her words.

Looking forward to hugging her neck again at Relevant. :)

There have been other times too. It's amazing, becasue it's never related to what's going on around me- things just pop to my mind's eye. And yes, He speaks through words too- Ann's, and both of yours. :)
